Selphyl™

Selphyl™ gives our patients  a revolutionary new tool for maintaining a youthful appearance. Selphyl treatments correct early signs of aging like crow’s feet, under-eye hollows, and loss of facial volume by stimulating the body’s own collagen production and cellular growth.

Misleadingly called the “Vampire Facelift,” Selphyl treatments require no surgery at all. In fact, they work much like dermal fillers, but with one key difference: Selphyl treatments use your body’s own Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) instead of synthetic materials. The result? Natural-looking enhancement that gradually improves with time.

What is Selphyl™?

Do you like the idea of using your own “autologous” biological materials to look younger and feel more confident? If so, Selphyl treatments could start you on a natural path to a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Goldberg collects a small quantity of your own blood and then separates the Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix from it. Platelets help our bodies heal by stimulating the growth of collagen and new cells, and both help our skin look fuller and more youthful.

Benefits of Selphyl™

  • Provides a minimally invasive, non-surgical alternative to rejuvenation
  • Offers long-lasting wrinkle reduction and volume enhancement
  • Minimizes side effects through use of the body’s own all-natural materials
  • Activates and promotes new cellular growth and collagen formation
  • Provides immediate, visible results that gradually continue to improve
  • Requires no lengthy recovery or downtime

How does Selphyl™ work?

Dr. Goldberg administers Selphyl™  in an office procedure (in our same clinic right in Toronto) that takes 20 to 30 minutes. He begins by reviewing your facial features to determine which areas would most benefit from increased volume. A small amount of your own blood is processed in a specially designed centrifuge, which separates the plasma, platelets, and fibrin from the other cells. In effect, you produce the material Dr. Goldberg uses to rejuvenate your appearance.

Dr. Goldberg then glides the tiny needle under the skin, injecting your own platelet-rich material into the targeted areas. You may feel mild but temporary discomfort when the material is administered.

Immediately following treatment, you may experience some tenderness at the injection site, which you can effectively minimize with a cold compress. Within a short time you can apply makeup and resume your normal skincare routine, taking precaution not to rub the treated areas for a day or two.

You should see marked improvement during the first 2 weeks following treatment, and final results in 3 to 6 months. Improvements will last approximately 20 months. During the initial consultation with Dr. Goldberg patients will also learn how to best maintain their results from the Selphyl treatments.

Selphyl™ Safety & Risks

Selphyl has been safely and effectively used on thousands of patients all over the world. Because treatments use patient’s own platelet-rich plasma, most experience few of the complications or allergic reactions often associated with synthetic fillers. No serious side effects have been reported, but some patients have experienced mild, temporary side effects like irritation, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or itching at the injection site. These conditions generally clear in one or two days.

PRP (Platelet rich plasma)

Platelets are fragments of specialized cells that circulate in our blood. They are storehouses of growth factors and anti-inflammatory substances.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a technique that involves taking blood from a person and separating the platelets so that they can be injected to take advantage of the substances they contain. It can do things such as tighten or smooth skin, reduce inflammation, and stimulate growth in tissue such as hair follicles.

Usually, it requires two to three treatments for the substances in your platelets to achieve their intended goal. The results will typically last about a year.
