Gluteoplasty is a procedure that reshapes and enhances your gluteal area, providing you with an uplifted and shapelier buttock profile. In the past ten years, this procedure has become increasingly popular worldwide, with shapely buttocks often seen as a symbol of femininity and sensuality. The most frequent methods for enlarging and reshaping your buttocks are fat grafting using your own natural fatty tissue (popularly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift), or with buttock implants.
A butt lift is a surgical procedure to remove loose and sagging skin from the buttocks and create firmer, more lifted buttocks. Many patients who have a lot of sagging skin around the buttocks as a result of a significant amount of weight loss or aging, or patients with a flat butt, choose to have a butt lift to gain a firmer and defined look.
What are my options?
There are two main approaches for buttock augmentation: autologous fat transfer (Brazillian butt lift) and buttock implant surgery. Your surgeon will recommend an approach based on your aesthetic goals and body shape. Buttock implants may be chosen if you desire a more rounded appearance to your buttocks while fat grafting is an excellent way to contour and reshape your buttocks. If you are very slender with little excess fat, then implants may be appropriate; however, if you have sagging buttocks after massive weight loss, then fat grafting or a combination of fat and implant surgery may be more effective.
Brazilian Butt Lift
Brazilian Butt Lift surgery is an easy and natural way to enhance your buttocks. It is also one of the most popular. A Brazilian Butt Lift gives you fuller buttocks, reshapes your flanks and a slimmer waistline. The procedure, a combination of liposuction and buttock augmentation, involves taking fat from your waist/stomach and/or flanks and putting it into your buttocks. The result is a new shapely body giving you a more youthful hourglass figure.
Using your own fat to enhance your buttocks has many advantages over silicone implants. Augmentation with fat grafting gives you more options on how you can enhance your butt . It also results in less pain, less risk of infection and or complications and a faster recovery.
You must have enough useable fat. Most patients over-estimate the amount of fat that can be used. You need to remember that we cannot take all the existing fat and transfer it to your butt. Some fat needs to stay behind to ensure that the area from which the fat was taken does not look deformed. Patients often point to specific areas of fat deposits and ask for all of it to be taken away. In such a case imagine if an ice-cream scoop is being used and removing ALL the fat. Can you picture the scooped out hole that would be left? For that reason some fat always has to be left behind.
There are 3 stages to the procedure: Liposuction, Body Sculpting and Butt Augmentation
The first step of your surgery is liposuction. Unwanted fat is removed from one or more areas on your body. When taken from the stomach and/or flanks it helps create the hourglass shape you want be eliminating the fat in your mid-section.
The removed fat is purified and then carefully injected into specific areas of the buttocks. This is done at varying depths to sculpt and augment the area to achieve your desired result. The surgery takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, depending on how much fat and how many areas are liposuctioned.
If you do not have enough fat to transfer to your buttocks, silicone implants may be used instead.
After the Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery, you will be asked to avoid any direct pressure on your butt for two weeks. This allows the best take of the fat graft in your buttocks and ensures the most long lasting result. For two weeks you should not sit on your butt. You should sleep on your stomach. You can sit down for short periods of time if needed. When you do, please make sure you sit on a very very soft pillow. It is important that the fat cells that have been transferred to your butt are treated extremely gently. They have been traumatized during the liposuction and injection. They are very fragile. And they must be allowed to survive until your body establishes blood vessels in the new areas of fat. It is essential that blood flow is established to bring in nutrients, oxygen to these fat cells. Not all fat cells survive, therefore you will need to wait for 3 months to see the final results.
From this point on, avoiding pressure on the butt is essential to ensure as many fat cells as possible survive this surgery
Implants are most appropriate for treating flat or poorly defined buttocks, particularly for patients who have limited fatty tissue. They are not as effective for treating sagging buttocks that may occur after significant weight loss.
With this procedure a soft, shaped silicone implant is placed through an incision hidden inside the natural buttock crease, or an alternate incision site may be used. Further details about these incision locations will be provided during the consultation.
The implant is positioned in a pocket below the large buttock (gluteal) muscle and above the pelvic bone. The incisions are closed with sutures, drains are inserted, and a compression garment is worn following surgery.
