Dermal Fillers and Restylane® Skinboosters
Skin boosting dermal fillers such as Restylane® give a quick and safe option for smoothing facial wrinkles, restoring youthful contours, and plumping thin lips. Although many different dermal fillers are available, Dr. Cory Goldberg knows how to select the right product, or combination of products, to help you achieve the results you want.
Our clinic offers many of the safest and most advanced skin boosters and dermal fillers available:
- Restylane Fine Lines
- Teosyal Redensity I and II and Teosyal Kiss
What are dermal fillers?
If you would like to freshen your appearance without surgery, dermal fillers can give you just the “lift” you need. As we age, we naturally begin to lose collagen and fat, some of which shifts downward. Injectable fillers can restore that lost volume, while creating a firmer skin surface, so wrinkles look less noticeable and our natural contours appear fuller and more youthful.
Benefits of dermal fillers
At what age do adult men and women typically begin using dermal fillers such as Restylane? Treatments begin at the first signs of aging, typically in the 30s to early 50s, though some younger patients can also benefit.
Dermal fillers might be right for you if you would like to experience any or all of the following benefits:
- Smoothed facial wrinkles around the nose and mouth
- Softened creases on the forehead or between the brows
- Restored volume in hollow areas around the eyes
- Renewed firmness on sagging areas of the face
- Augmented facial features such as cheeks, chin, or lips
Results are instantly visible. Each treatment takes less than an hour and involves no downtime.
How do dermal fillers work?
To begin each treatment session, Dr. Goldberg administers anesthesia (either topical creams or small injections) to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Next, he smoothly glides the tiny needle under the skin, precisely injecting the filler until he has achieved the desired results. You may feel mild discomfort when the product is administered, but it will quickly subside.
Following treatment, you can reduce any residual pain with a cold compress. Shortly after, you can safely apply makeup and resume your typical skincare routine, but remember not to rub the treated areas for a day or two. You may experience minor swelling or bruising, which should fade in a few days.
For optimal results, you may need up to 3 treatments. The product Dr. Goldberg will help you select, based on your individual goals and facial characteristics, will determine how long the effects will last and how often you should return to maintain results. Dermal fillers such as Restylane generally last from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the product used.
Dermal fillers: Safety & Risks
Dermal fillers have been safely used in millions of patients worldwide, and side effects are extremely rare. Dr. Goldberg will discuss potential complications during your consultation and explain how to address them if they do arise.
Dermal fillers perform well alone or when combined with Botox treatments to help you look and feel your best. During your consultation for dermal fillers or Restylane Dr. Goldberg will recommend a personalized approach to meet your aesthetic goals.
Selphyl™ gives our patients a revolutionary new tool for maintaining a youthful appearance. Selphyl treatments correct early signs of aging like crow’s feet, under-eye hollows, and loss of facial volume by stimulating the body’s own collagen production and cellular growth.
Misleadingly called the “Vampire Facelift,” Selphyl treatments require no surgery at all. In fact, they work much like dermal fillers, but with one key difference: Selphyl treatments use your body’s own Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) instead of synthetic materials. The result? Natural-looking enhancement that gradually improves with time.
What is Selphyl™?
Do you like the idea of using your own “autologous” biological materials to look younger and feel more confident? If so, Selphyl treatments could start you on a natural path to a more youthful appearance.
Dr. Goldberg collects a small quantity of your own blood and then separates the Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix from it. Platelets help our bodies heal by stimulating the growth of collagen and new cells, and both help our skin look fuller and more youthful.
Benefits of Selphyl™
- Provides a minimally invasive, non-surgical alternative to rejuvenation
- Offers long-lasting wrinkle reduction and volume enhancement
- Minimizes side effects through use of the body’s own all-natural materials
- Activates and promotes new cellular growth and collagen formation
- Provides immediate, visible results that gradually continue to improve
- Requires no lengthy recovery or downtime
How does Selphyl™ work?
Dr. Goldberg administers Selphyl™ in an office procedure (in our same clinic right in Toronto) that takes 20 to 30 minutes. He begins by reviewing your facial features to determine which areas would most benefit from increased volume. A small amount of your own blood is processed in a specially designed centrifuge, which separates the plasma, platelets, and fibrin from the other cells. In effect, you produce the material Dr. Goldberg uses to rejuvenate your appearance.
Dr. Goldberg then glides the tiny needle under the skin, injecting your own platelet-rich material into the targeted areas. You may feel mild but temporary discomfort when the material is administered.
Immediately following treatment, you may experience some tenderness at the injection site, which you can effectively minimize with a cold compress. Within a short time you can apply makeup and resume your normal skincare routine, taking precaution not to rub the treated areas for a day or two.
You should see marked improvement during the first 2 weeks following treatment, and final results in 3 to 6 months. Improvements will last approximately 20 months. During the initial consultation with Dr. Goldberg patients will also learn how to best maintain their results from the Selphyl treatments.
Selphyl™ Safety & Risks
Selphyl has been safely and effectively used on thousands of patients all over the world. Because treatments use patient’s own platelet-rich plasma, most experience few of the complications or allergic reactions often associated with synthetic fillers. No serious side effects have been reported, but some patients have experienced mild, temporary side effects like irritation, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or itching at the injection site. These conditions generally clear in one or two days.
